another day at the office
i’ve been able to support myself without temping for several years (knock wood) … but i was a really famous word processor in big law firms for many years … while i was grateful for the income and flexibility, there are few feelings as deadly as reporting to an office when it’s the last place you want to be … so for labor day and bruce, who has a good job but still doesn’t always feel like going there, here’s a poem for september
since bruce and i are taking off to see kept at the edinburgh festival, i thought i’d post the closing lyric as this month’s poem … caleigh is on her deathbed and has just been reunited with ian, the love of her life …
another year is gone
(an anniversary song for bruce, mid-80s)
this month bruce and i celebrate 24 years together … so i have to post one of the many poems i’ve written for him … i think this is from the mid-80’s, but it feels even more relevant today …
i need a drink of water in mind
june is gay pride month so i thought i’d post a lyric i wrote not long after coming out in the mid-70s … at the time i was writing lyrics for and managing a duo called jade & sarsaparilla comprised of janet hood and linda langford … trust me on this — they truly were the greatest group you never heard … they were in a relationship at the time and we wrote into that … it was also when the watergate scandal was unfolding … so i combined all those influences into a country-western song which was recorded on jade & sarsaparilla’s album (soon to be re-released — watch this space for details)
