i’ve been revisiting my first professionally produced musical fourtune, music by ron melrose, because we’re doing a reading on august 8th to benefit the l.g.b.t. center in new york in celebration of the show’s 25th anniversary … it certainly has been an enjoyable trip down memory lane … for this month’s poem i decided to post the lyric of the closing number … note: fourtune is the title of the show and the name of the four-member singing group (get it?) that the show is about … but this song is about seeking one’s fortune (spelled correctly)

some things get better with age
july is a big month — bruce’s and my anniversay (26!) and my birthday (no comment, except to say we met in when we were in day care together) … the following was originally written as a poem and then three different composers set it to music without my knowledge … i did adapt it as a lyric and that is the version here …
i’d rather be a fairy than a troll
twenty-five years ago, my first professionally produced musical, fourtune was playing off-broadway at the actors playhouse … this is the lyric to the song from that score which got the most attention … and it certainly seems appropriate to post it for gay pride month … we’re putting together a staged reading of fourtune as a benefit for the gay and lesbian center on w. 13th street on august 8 and john tartaglia will be singing this song … watch this website for details …
