jade & sarsaparilla album re-released!

in the mid-70s, i had the great pleasure and honor of writing lyrics for and managing the duo jade & sarsaparilla … we did an album which has just been re-released by amoeba music:

http://www.amoeba.com/jade-sarsaparilla-janet-hood/albums/834447/

to this day, still one of the best projects i've ever been involved with … janet hood and linda langford are incredibly talented and this was pretty edgy content back then (still is in many circles) … i really think this music holds up … check it out!

I Have been looking for a cd but was spelling name wrong even though I have the album. I don’t think we have met but I was the person who told Maureen to go see these women because I wanted them to play at the Sheraton where I worked during these wonderful years.
They were playing in Hyannis. And the rest is history. Can you help me find a cd

I had the cassette that they sold in the ’70’s at their gigs…went to the amoeba site: NO KNOWN ARTIST! wtf!

Had the pleasure of seeing them perform at Berkeley School of Music (Boston). DEE-LITED to hear it’s been re-released. My vinyl is worn thru. Are they doing any music now, together or individually?

hi,

jade & sarsaparilla are no longer performing together but janet hood and i continue to write together … our new musical, “unexpected joy” just enjoyed its world premire on cape cod … stay tuned for more with that musical for four women

THRILLED to find these songs again. My son and I just sang “I’d Like To Be” at my other son’s wedding. This is also the song that was playing when my wife and I got engaged some 31 years ago. Thank you and J&S for this!

Bill,

This is Spider’s brother and Rubens uncle. I want to say I am proud of you! You have always inspired me since college. I would love to do a 15 minute interview with you for our magazine. I know you would inspire many of our readers. Keep up the good work.

Thanks

Oh Bill! I have SO MANY wonderful yummy fun memories of living at the Bacon Farm and shows w/Linda&Janet and being blasted out of bed by jeffreybarsomburgers stereo system and laughing, talking with you and the Cape in general. Sigh. Hard to believe it was over 40 years ago????!!!!! I live in the Bay Area now. Happy?, life is good?. I hope you are happy and good too. All the best to you always! Hugs and Love, somebody that you used ta know, Sher???

i have such fond memories of those days also … how great to hear from you!

janet and i just wrote a musical that was off-broadway and is opening in london in september — it’s called “unexpected joy” … the album is being released on jay records in august … if you liked jade & sarsaparilla’s music i think you’ll like this

We went to a J&S concert for our second date. We’ve been together 43 yrs yesterday. They fought onstage. It was pretty weird to watch. I don’t think they ever performed again after that night. Never heard Gonna Take a Miracle sung angry before.

Can’t find Jade and Sarsaparilla’s recordings anywhere. Heeeelp!

hi dvorah,
thanks for you inquiry …
the jade & sarsaparilla album was available on amoeba music, but i can’t find it there now …
i’d be happy to send you a c.d. of their album … or a link to download … could you send $10 US to my paypal account: billboyruss@aol.com … be sure to specify which you’d like and a mailing address if it’s a c.d.

Hi Bill,
Nice to find you here- hope this is a site you still check. I still have my vinyl Jade & Sarsaparilla album from 1976 or whenever it first came out. My girlfriend at the time saw you guys in Boston summer of ‘74 then we got you all to come give a great concert at our little college, Randolph-Macon Women’s College in Lynchburg ?Va. Then we brought you back the same year, I filmed you guys for a class project, and got you all a gig the next night at UVA. You might know the activist, Andy Humm, he was there at UVA and tears were rolling down his cheeks (and all of ours) during Gonna Take a Miracle. Anyhow, I digress… I occasionally scour the internet trying to find a digital copy of that album so i can listen on my phone and other ways. I’d happily venmo you or whatever if there’s a way to get that access. I’ll have to take a listen to your latest work with Janet! BTW Saw you guys in Boston one night in 1977 the night Andy Kaufman showed up to catch the show. So glad you and Janet are still making you’r wonderful music and going strong. My wife and I lived in Manhattan 10+years then moved to Montclair, NJ for the past 23 years because we have 3 kids (lol). All finished college, good kids, doing good work in the world and I’ve pretty much retired and focusing happily on my art now. Let me know about getting a digital copy of the album if possible. Hope we get to run into each other at a show or something somewhere down the crazy road! Warm Regards, Kathryn Crawford

Hi Bill – I’m Linda’s niece (my dad is her oldest brother) and I saw that you had offered the opportunity to have a link to download the music for $10. If that is still something you are offering, I would love a link to the Jade and Sasparilla album. My parents still have the album but I don’t know that we have anything to play it on and I’d love to not lose any recordings of my aunt’s amazing voice. :)
